Transforming homes for safer, easier living
Discover how my home adaptation assessments can make daily tasks safer and more comfortable. We provide practical solutions tailored to your unique needs, helping you live independently in your own home.
What is a home adaptation assessment?
An occupational therapy home adaptation assessment involves a visit from an experienced occupational therapist to your home in Cornwall or Devon. The purpose is to identify practical changes and recommend equipment that can make daily tasks safer and easier for you.
Solving daily challenges
My assessments help solve the main problem of navigating a home that no longer fully supports your physical abilities. We focus on making everyday activities, from bathing to cooking, more accessible.
Practical recommendations
I provide expert recommendations for adaptations, whether they are small adjustments or more significant modifications, to improve your independence and safety at home.
Comprehensive support
From initial assessment to detailed reports for councils or landlords, we guide you through the entire process, ensuring you receive the support you need.
Your path to a more accessible home
Understand the straightforward process of a home adaptation assessment with Tim O'Brien Occupational Therapy. We make it easy to get the support you need.
The assessment process
Our home adaptation assessment begins with a home visit where your occupational therapist will discuss what you find difficult to do. They may observe you performing basic tasks like getting out of a chair or walking up stairs to understand your mobility. I will also thoroughly review how you use your rooms, kitchen, and bathroom.
Personalised recommendations
After the assessment, we will provide a written report detailing the help you need. Common recommendations can range from small changes like grab rails in the bathroom, extra stair banisters, or non-slip mats, to more significant alterations such as walk-in showers, stairlifts, door widening, or outdoor access ramps. We also suggest helpful equipment like bath seats, perching stools for the kitchen, or special walking frames.
